Study of Migration through Information from Genealogical and Civil Registry Archives
MIGRA is a collaboration between the Municipality of Buti and the Institute of Informatics and Telematics of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), based in Pisa.
The idea grew out of CNR researcher Andrea Marchetti’s passion for genealogy and the Municipality of Buti’s interest in studying migration from Buti to La Seyne-sur-Mer, the French town twinned with Buti and a major destination for migrants from Buti during the twentieth century.
The project aims to reconstruct the history of migration from Buti to La Seyne-sur-Mer, strengthen the ties between the two twin towns, and help residents of both communities trace their family origins.
The study will also support new research into the demographic history of Buti.
